During the early part of Spring we had the opportunity to spend two weeks in Malaysia with Florence Loo. Some of you may remember, that the Loo‘s had been former co-workers with us here in Kamiah. Shortly before Christmas 2005 Phillip suddenly went home to be with the Lord after a surgery. Although it was sad not to see Phillip in his „element“, we were able to have a wonderful time with Florence and her daughter Joy, son in law, Dan and their three kids. All of this was possible because of the Loo family‘s generous provision for the airline tickets.
The weather in Malaysia was as expected hot and humid with temperatures between 90 and 95 degrees—a little hot for German temperature gauges.
Florence hosted us with her world famous Asian hospitality. While in Malaysia we were treated to more exotic meals and fruits than we could keep count of. Malaysia‘s culture and cuisine is influenced by its people descending from China, India and of course the local Malay people.
We spent our time in Penang, Kulim and on the Island of Langkawi, a very popular tourist destination, especially for Germans. Even the well known Formula 1 racing champion, Michael Schumacher has a condominium here. The Island has most beautiful beaches and lush tropical forests and the temperatures thaw out even the most frozen German or North American.
After their return to Malaysia, Phillip and Florence pastored a local church here in Langkawi. We had the privilege to get to know some of their former church members.
Although Phillip‘s death came suddenly, we were able to clearly see that Florence places her trust completely in the Lord for all her needs. She continues to serve as Pastor for the congregation in Kulim until the end of this year. After that she plans to spend an extended time with family in Malaysia and the US.
